B
orn in Yorkshire, England in 1953, Phil Hobbs qualified as an ArtTeacher in 1975 and later worked as a designer for the Lake District National Park before becoming a full time artist in 1979.
Now an internationally respected artist working largely in pure watercolour he has gained an enviable reputation for the amount of light, depth and reality he is able to incorporate into his work, examples of which can be found in many major collections. His work depicts the hidden as well as more obvious aspects of life in and around the countryside or the city, with the accent often on the play of light and the textural qualities of his subjects. This is equally apparent in work painted abroad notably in Spain , North Africa , Venice and Italy .
He exhibits regularly in the United States , The Mall Gallery Exhibitions in London and annually at The Summer Exhibition of The Lake Artists Society of which he is currently President.
