A study in textures, I am drawn to subjects that tell of years of wear
and tear, potted histories of the generations. A door that has been
opened by boot and bucket and wheelbarrow. An old slate barns'
eternal solidity contrasted with feathery almost weightless presence
of the ubiquitous farmyard chicken.

Early Trade - Rialto markets

Venice 's' famous fish and vegetable market. The cool, early hours
are dominated by the traders setting up their stalls, then the short
period during which the locals carefully make their choices from the
huge range of produce from land and sea; before the tourists swell
the crowds and the heat of the day make progress to and from the
Rialto Bridge a slow affair.

Old Rope and Shadows, Staithes

Anchors and chains almost rusted away, old ropes stiff with
salt form intricate webs along battered Quays. As much a part of
our old fishing harbours as the smell of the seaweed or the sight
of the stout little boats that on the next tide will forage the seas
along the coast, until, like horses before the plough, they return,
to be tethered once again.
